I know it was not legal, but he would let us ride in the camp trailer while going down the highway. We would go to out of the way places like the Redwood forest in California and journey through states like Nevada, Utah and Idaho on our way to Yellowstone National Park. For local camping in Southern California, my dad would put a slide-in camper on his GMC pickup because we pulled a trailer with dirt bikes on it. Those desert nights sitting around a large campfire will be in my memory forever. Sometimes us kids would like to sleep on the ground in our sleeping bags looking at the stars. As soon as we would hear some wild animal noises, we would bang on the camper door for our parents to let us in.

Now that I am older and have a family of my own, I purchased a Jayco low cost used camping trailer so my children can have many of the same expierences that I did. Our first trip was to the Smokie mountains in Tennessee. We parked in a campground right next to the Cherokee indian reservation. Funny. When my kids were outside making a lot of noise, I told them to be quiet or the indians would come and get them. In no time at all they would be quiet and get back inside my Jayco camp trialer. I have downsized travel trailers since the older children have went off to collage. My latest travel trailer is an 18 foot Skyline. This is just the right size for a family of three and it pulls so nice behind my Chevrolet Silverado half ton.
