I still remember going camping as a kid in my father's Airstream travel trailer. I know it was not legal, but he would let us ride in the camp trailer while going down the highway. We would go to out of the way places like the Redwood forest in California and journey through states like Nevada, Utah and Idaho on our way to Yellowstone National Park. For local camping in Southern California, my dad would put a slide-in camper on his GMC pickup because we pulled a trailer with dirt bikes on it. Those desert nights sitting around a large campfire will be in my memory forever. Sometimes us kids would like to sleep on the ground in our sleeping bags looking at the stars. As soon as we would hear some wild animal noises, we would bang on the camper door for our parents to let us in.
